Domain
A english-like 'pointer' to a web site. For example yahoo.com.
To get your own domain name, you will need to
register it,
for which there is an annual or bi-annual fee.
In order to actually put a web site on your domain, you will also need to get a
web host who stores your site.
There are lots of types of domains, corresponding to different types of
organizations and different countries, but the most well known is
.com (pronounced 'dot com').
As domains are a limited resource (only 1 person or company can register a particular name)
there is a thriving market in buying and selling domain names (some domain names have sold
for millions of dollars, having cost just a few dollars to register).
